Wrench Report

If you're looking to cruise in the luxurious style of the '50s, then this 1955 Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria Coupe is going to check all your boxes. It retains its classic mechanical character and look with the iconic chrome "tiara" roof trim and a two-tone paint scheme. Some nice usability upgrades in the Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, modern MSD ignition, and a crucial 12-volt electrical conversion, plus the front disc brakes which help to make it a reliable cruiser. A style and craftsmanship on the road I miss in most modern vehicles.

Description

This 1955 Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria Coupe is a specified Florida car that was acquired by the current owner in the summer of 2025 and has since been driven fewer than 300 miles. The vehicle is powered by a 292ci Y-block V8 paired with a three-speed manual transmission operated via a column shifter. Upgrades completed during previous ownership include a 12-volt electrical conversion, power-assisted front disc brakes, and an aftermarket steel Continental kit. Now showing 110k original miles, this Crown Victoria is offered by the selling dealer on behalf of the owner with a clean Massachusetts title.

The body is finished in a red and white two-tone paint scheme that exhibits minor blemishes on the hood and at the lower section of the driver's door. The chrome bumpers and full-length "tiara" roof trim are intact, and the rear lighting features new lenses housing LED bulbs.

A steel Continental kit manufactured to factory specifications by a Canadian firm is mounted to the rear bumper, featuring a body-colored wheel case adorned with airbrushed "Unforgettable" script and musical notes. The car rides on factory steel wheels with Ford hubcaps and wide-whitewall radial tires. The trunk compartment contains a matching full-size spare tire with a fifth factory hubcap and a rubber floor mat.

The 292ci Y-block V8 is situated in a detailed engine compartment and features finned Ford-branded valve covers. Fuel delivery has been updated with a four-barrel Edelbrock carburetor, and the electrical system was modernized with a 12-volt conversion, an alternator, and an MSD ignition setup. The factory vacuum-operated windshield wipers have also been replaced with an electric conversion. Maintenance completed in July 2024 included the installation of new shift linkage for the three-speed manual gearbox.

The undercarriage features a front sway bar equipped with grease fittings and a dual exhaust system constructed from stainless steel. The exhaust path incorporates glass-pack mufflers and terminates with chrome tips at the rear of the vehicle. The floor pans, frame rails, and suspension mounting points are described as solid and present in a condition consistent with the vehicle's Florida history.

The cabin features front and rear bench seats upholstered in white vinyl, complemented by matching door panels, a white headliner, and intact stainless steel interior trim. Replacement black carpeting is protected by Ford-branded rubber floor mats.

The body-colored dashboard retains its factory instrumentation, though the analog clock and AM radio are currently non-functional. Auxiliary instrumentation from Stewart Warner is mounted beneath the dashboard to monitor oil pressure, water temperature, and battery amperage.
