Wrench Report

By Chris Esparza

RestoMods Head Mechanic. 20 year classic car mechanic & builder.

If you love the feeling of being connected to your car during a spirited drive, this is exactly the kind of car you want to be behind the wheel of. The way the power delivery feels when that Weiand blower kicks in, combined with grabbing gears through that TKO500 and the direct feedback from the manual steering, makes you want to grab the keys over and over again. It's a serious street/strip build that doesn't just look aggressive, it's got the 12-bolt rear and Caltracs setup to actually put those 520 horses to the pavement. There's a raw, visceral quality here that you only get when a car is stripped down to the essentials, which is why things like the heater and wipers were ditched in favor of pure performance. You'll forget all about the lack of A/C as soon as you hear that 383 stroker come to life. It's an honest, hard-hitting second-gen that's built for the strip but still has enough manners to be a total blast on the street.

Description

This 1970 Chevrolet Camaro is a street/strip build that was previously owned by vintage Porsche builder Mark Kinninger before being acquired by the selling dealer in December 2024. The car is finished in red with white stripes over a mostly stock interior and is powered by a supercharged 383ci stroker V8 paired with a Tremec TKO500 five-speed manual transmission. The vehicle is being offered at no reserve by the selling dealer RestoMods (Dealer ID# 03810) with a clean California title.

The 383ci small-block V8 features a Weiand supercharger and a Demon carburetor. Under 4 lbs of boost, the engine reportedly produced 520 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque on a dyno. Supporting hardware includes:

  1. Cooling: Griffin aluminum radiator and an electric water pump.
  2. Exhaust: Hooker Super Comp headers.
  3. Driveline: Hurst shifter, 12-bolt rear end, and a line lock system.

The car is set up for NHRA drag racing compliance while remaining street-operable. The chassis has been reinforced with subframe connectors and billet fender braces. The suspension and braking systems include:

  1. Caltracs Components: Split mono-leaf springs, traction bars, and shocks.
  2. Manual disc brakes
  3. Manual steering.

The exterior features a fiberglass cowl hood and a wiper delete. The paint is finished in red with white racing stripes. Also featured are:

  1. 18" American Racing Groove wheels.
  2. Sumimoto HTR Z5 summer tires (front 225/45ZR18 / rear 275/40ZR18)
  3. Color matched spoiler

Inside, the cabin retains a lot of the original or OEM interior, such as the rear bench seat, the center console, dashboard and steering wheel. Heat and air conditioning controls are retained but the vehicle does not have functioning heat or a/c. The vehicle also has a wiper delete. Aftermarket equipment includes:

  1. Performance bucket seats with three-point seat belts.
  2. Autometer instrumentation.
  3. Hurst floor shifter.

This Camaro comes with one set of keys and is located in San Diego, CA.

knofun Seller Staff Apr 23, 10:21 am PDT
Nope, your bid is your bid so if you put in whatever your maxis, that will be the actual bid. No proxy bidding.

Would you happen to know how many miles total are on the 383 engine since it was put in car?

knofun Seller Staff Apr 23, 10:23 am PDT
Unknown, but maybe @pormark would have some insight? Odometer reads 52,057 but Ihave no idea when that is from or if it's rolled over. It's the original gauge.

trick68rs Bidder • Apr 23, 4:44 am PDT

So whats up?? I placed a bid & was charged $250.00..then I was outbid..I tried to place another bid & each time a bid is placed I am charged an additional $250.00..sounds like a scam to me

BuyTheCar Dan Staff Apr 23, 5:04 am PDT
@trick68rs The $250 from your first bid is a temporary hold, not a charge. You will only be charged if you win the auction. Your subsequent bids won’t create new holds or charges. The max you would be charged if you win this Camaro is $250. Thank you for pointing this out so we can make it more clear when bidding..
trick68rs Apr 23, 5:42 am PDT
My card was already charged $250.00 when I placed my initial bid
trick68rs Apr 23, 5:43 am PDT
I was outbid.. So I tried to go in there to up my bid.. And it sat my card was gonna be charged.Another $250.00
knofun Seller Staff Apr 23, 6:44 am PDT
Yeah that's not how that works. It will not charge an additional $250, there is only one hold and if you win the auction it converts to a charge. I also got your email this morning and will give you a call.

AMXBob • Apr 22, 12:12 pm PDT

I noticed the headers are scraped up , is the car that low that it’s causing issues with the clearance. Thanks

knofun Seller Staff Apr 22, 1:04 pm PDT
Does not scrape or bottom out when driving, but the car is low and will scrape if you go straight-on over a speed bump. Just measured the height of the headers and it's 2 3/4 inches of clearance.

CervantesFreddy Bidder • Apr 20, 2:08 pm PDT

Does the original gauge cluster work? Speed , fuel level etc?

Elwrench Staff Apr 20, 2:57 pm PDT
Yes the original speedometer and fuel gauge work. The rest are idiot lights that do not function. The additional auto meter gauges all function and measure rpm, boost, water temp, oil pressure and volts
Spoonman • Apr 20, 12:10 pm PDT

Ac ?

restochris Apr 20, 12:49 pm PDT
