Wrench Report

By Chris Esparza

RestoMods Head Mechanic. 20 year classic car mechanic & builder.

The 1939 Ford has some exceptional lines, but is often overlooked compared to the '34 and '36 bodies. This unique '39 will not go unnoticed. The fiberglass body, aggressive modern stance, 350ci engine, leather interior are just some of the features which make this custom roadster unique. I personally like the stance and shape of the rear. Certainly a car show star.

Description

This 1939 Ford Roadster is a high-end street rod that benefits from a comprehensive, ground-up mechanical overhaul. Originally acquired by the current owner via Streetside Classics in 2021, the vehicle has since received an additional $39,000 in dedicated technical upgrades to bring every major system into turnkey condition. The car has covered 5,582 miles on the body since its revised construction, with fewer than 500 miles logged on the newly installed powertrain and chassis updates. It is fully documented with receipts and carries a clean Texas title by the private seller.

The sleek fiberglass body is finished in a smooth, vibrant paint color that accentuates the teardrop shape and sweeping lines of the classic pre-war Ford silhouette. Design details include integrated headlights, a swept-back front grille, shaved handles for a streamlined profile, and a custom removable hardtop that allows for quick configuration changes between an open roadster and a closed coupe profile.

The roadster stands with a striking, contemporary rake on an expensive set of polished aluminum Budnik wheels, sized 19 inches in the front and a larger 20 inches in the rear. These premium rollers are wrapped in brand-new low-profile performance tires designed to optimize road feel and tracking.

The modern street rod cabin is appointed with custom-sculpted leather bucket seats that offer excellent support, alongside matching upholstered side panels and premium carpeting. To enhance passenger comfort during long-distance touring, power windows have been seamlessly integrated into the doors.

The color-matched dashboard is fitted with a polished Colorado Custom billet aluminum steering wheel mounted to a clean steering column. Instrumentation is updated with a centrally located cluster of AutoMeter Pro-Comp Ultra-Lite gauges that accurately monitor vehicle speed, engine RPM, water temperature, oil pressure, and voltage.

The engine bay houses a brand-new 350ci small-block Chevrolet crate engine that has accumulated roughly 500 miles since its installation. The engine utilizes an aluminum intake manifold, a performance four-barrel carburetor, an HEI distributor, and entirely new wiring and supporting infrastructure. Power is directed to the rear axle via a Turbo Hydra-Matic 350 three-speed automatic transmission.

The chassis handles and tracks with precision thanks to a Mustang II tubular A-arm front end, a four-link rear, adjustable coilovers all-around, and an updated power steering conversion that replaces the heavy steering box of the original design. Stopping power has been significantly increased with a high-performance, power-assisted Wilwood four-wheel disc brake system equipped with multi-piston calipers and oversized rotors.

Included with the sale is a color matched custom hardtop for the vehicle.

Does this car have heat and AC?

DJRD Seller Jul 9, 9:01 am PDT
No, Since I always drive with the top off, the AC won't really do much for me in Texas. Therefore, I never installed AC or Heat.
walter Jul 9, 11:34 am PDT
Alright, thank you, beautiful car.
DJRD Seller Jul 9, 1:01 pm PDT
Thank you Walter.
