A textbook execution of an open budget, frame off restoration. Dropping a 505-horsepower Blueprint Engines small block and a Heidt's four-link suspension into this iconic Trans Am are going to bring significant modern improvements to the driving experience (this thing has cruise control added by the way), but it still retains the classic charm with the brushed aluminum style dashboard bezel, 3 spoke steering wheel and factory style seats.

Description

This 1976 Pontiac Trans Am is a custom restomod that represents the results of an extensive, frame-off, nut-and-bolt restoration completed over a two-and-a-half-year period and finalized in May 2023. The build was executed with an open-budget approach, blending the car's iconic mid-seventies muscle car styling with a 505-horsepower crate engine, a modernized chassis, and a completely refurbished cockpit. Combining classic second-generation Firebird aesthetics with contemporary performance technology, this Trans Am is accompanied by a clean Ohio title and being offered by a private seller in the Hillsboro, Ohio area.

The exterior is finished in a high-gloss black paint scheme featuring the iconic "Screaming Chicken" hood decal and classic Trans Am graphics. The body panels were aligned and smoothed during the extensive frame-off process, and the car retains its factory aerodynamic treatments, including the front chin spoiler, wheel opening flares, and integrated three-piece rear spoiler. The restoration also included the installation of brand-new front and rear glass, entirely replaced chrome brightwork and window moldings, and a complete modernization of the vehicle's exterior illumination utilizing crisp LED bulbs.

The vehicle rides on new 17-inch Honeycomb-style aluminum wheels that pay homage to the original factory design while offering modern sizing. These wheels are mounted with 275/40ZR17 Toyo Proxes high-performance tires to deliver an aggressive, road-hugging stance.

The cabin features a completely new interior package sourced from Legendary Auto Interiors. The bucket seats and rear bench have been completely reupholstered in factory-correct black vinyl, accompanied by matching replacement door panels, a new headliner, and fresh carpeting. A brand-new center console divides the front seats, and a modern wiring harness was installed during the build to support full LED interior accent lighting throughout the cockpit.

The driver is presented with a custom sports steering wheel mounted to a tilt steering column, which features an integrated cruise control system for relaxed highway driving. The dashboard pad was professionally restored by Al Knoch, complemented by a newly refurbished dash bezel that houses all-new gauges, including a 160-mph Firebird speedometer. Additional interior updates include a floor-mounted B&M shifter, a modern radio head unit, and a Vintage Air climate control system to maintain cabin comfort in all weather conditions.

The engine bay is highly detailed and houses a brand-new, dyno-tested 505-horsepower 400ci small block crate engine from Blueprint Engines. The fresh power plant is equipped with an aluminum intake manifold and a Holley 850-cfm Double Pumper carburetor with an electric choke. Cooling for the high-performance setup is managed by an upgraded Champion aluminum radiator paired with twin electric cooling fans. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a professionally rebuilt 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive, which spins a rugged Ford 9-inch rear end equipped with 3.73:1 gearing and new Strange Engineering axles.

The factory chassis was significantly modernized by integrating a precision-engineered Heidt's four-link rear suspension assembly and subframe connectors. The vehicle rides on four-way adjustable coilover shocks at all four corners, allowing the driver to fine-tune both ride height and stiffness. Braking performance has been vastly improved through a combined Wilwood and CPP power braking system featuring a high-performance brake booster, replacement fluid lines, and drilled and slotted rotors on all four wheels.
