Wrench Report

This '68 Camaro is a total blast from the past that's finally made its way back home to California. Even though the VIN tells us it started life as a humble inline-six car, someone went all-in on an SS tribute restoration, and honestly, the yellow paint with that black stripe still looks killer today. The 350 and Borg Warner 5-Speed makes enough power to reliably enjoy for a fun drive. You're gonna get decent control on the road with that Global West front suspension with Viking coilovers, but just remember you have old school leaf springs and drums in the back. Inside, the VintageAir A/C is gonna keep you cool while those Borla mufflers are singing out the back. The Dapper LED headlights are a nice touch for some actual visibility at night, and those 17-inch US Mags really help update the look. It may not be a maxed out restomod, but this is a super solid, honest cruiser that's ready to hit the local car meet or just cruise the coast with the windows down.

Description

This 1968 Chevy Camaro is reported by the GM Archives to be a true Los Angeles, California built car. Originally an inline-6 car indicated by the VIN, this Camaro now sports an SS tribute appearance and full restoration that was done 14 years ago in Kentucky. The restoration includes many upgrades to the powertrain, drivetrain, suspension and interior comforts. The seller purchased the vehicle in 2023 in Indiana, and is now offering the vehicle with a clean California title. The vehicle is located in California.

The seller indicates the Camaro underwent a full restoration 14 years ago, which included a repaint to yellow and new front stripe in black. SS badging was added to the vehicle's fenders, grille, and an SS gas cap. The headlights have been upgraded to Dapper high output LEDs. US Mags 17 inch wheels are equipped in black with a chrome lip.

The Camaro's original inline-6 has been replaced with a 350ci small block V8 sourced from a 1972 Camaro Z/28. The seller notes that the previous owner believed the engine produces around 300 horsepower. The engine has a Holley Demon carburetor, a 140 amp alternator, and is cooled by a Cold Case aluminum radiator and dual electric radiator fans. The engine block, heads, and intake manifold appear to have been repainted. Also installed are Edelbrock valve covers and an Edelbrock air cleaner. The engine exhaust flows through Hooker headers and into a custom exhaust system with Borla mufflers. The engine is linked to a rebuilt 5 speed Borg Warner manual transmission with a new clutch. The seller notes that the vehicle also has a new gas tank.

Suspension and handling upgrades include a Global West front racing suspension system with adjustable Viking coilover shocks, front disc brakes and power steering. The vehicle has a 10-bolt GM rear end with leaf springs and drum brakes.

Much of the original interior has been replaced, and the vehicle now has newer carpet, replacement bucket seats, a wood grain steering wheel, floor mats, and floor shifter assembly. Air conditioning is provided by VintageAir. OEM style gauges are present in the dash along with a Sunpro auxiliary RPM gauge, and a retro-style digital head unit radio is installed. An aftermarket center console is attached to the transmission tunnel.

Included in the sale is the authentic GM Archives report on the vehicle, which can be seen at the end of the photo gallery.
