Wrench Report
RestoMods Head Mechanic. 20 year classic car mechanic & builder.
This is a Bullitt clone Mustang with a shot of modern adrenaline. Dropping a low-mile Gen 3 Coyote and the 6-speed MT82 from a 2019 donor car into this classic chassis is a serious undertaking, and deleting the shock towers to make it fit means you're getting a much better-handling car thanks to that TCI independent front end. It's got that iconic Bullitt vibe with the Highland Green paint, and you can tell the focus was on making it a reliable, high-performance driver with the Wilwood brakes and Dakota Digital gauges. The leaf springs in the rear are great for daily driving, and it gives the next owner the option to enjoy perfectly as-is, or go wild and choose your own 4-link coilover conversion to turn this thing into a street-able racecar so you can channel your inner Steve McQueen on the streets. Since this is a Bullitt tribute car, there's no rules here on how you decide to own this thing. Want bigger brakes and larger diameter wheels to go auto-crossing with? Sure, you can definitely do that, or just stick with the 16" Torq Thrust wheels: it's an iconic part of the Bullitt Mustang's profile and you still have disc brakes at all 4 corners. It's a great tribute to an iconic car but with all the modern fun.
Description
This 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback was originally a 200ci inline-6 true fastback that has recently been fully restored and modified to be a Bullitt-style clone. The seller notes that there are very few miles on the build and low miles on the powertrain, with receipts indicating that a Canadian 2019 Ford Mustang GT with 29,723 kilometers (18,469 miles) was sourced to be the donor car for the build. This '68 Mustang Fastback is now equipped with the DOHC 5.0L Coyote V8 engine and MT82 6-speed manual transmission from the donor car, as well as a list of many performance upgrades to support the modern powertrain. The vehicle is being offered by the selling dealer American Steel Classics (Dealer ID# P171721) with a clean Texas title.

The exterior features Dark Highland Green paint similar to the Bullitt movie car, along with de-badged fenders, and 16"X8 American Racing Torque Thrust D wheels with new tires. The classic Bullitt Mustang style is further replicated with new chrome trim, new chrome bumpers, and chrome exhaust tips. This Mustang does retain the factory style front grille with the Mustang logo, which were deleted on the original movie car. Other unique touches include a color matched rear fascia and paint matched side scoops, whereas the movie car had a matte black rear fascia and factory side vents. The vehicle also has a replica rear vanity license plate that matches the movie car's plate number.

The DOHC 5.0 liter Coyote V8 was installed into the car along with the Getrag MT82 6-speed manual transmission, both sourced from the donor 2019 Mustang GT. A Mustang KRC Coyote Swap power steering pump kit was added, TCI Ford Modular long tube ceramic coated headers, and a 2.5 inch exhaust with an X-pipe and Flowmaster mufflers. Cooling is provided by an aluminum radiator with a single electric fan. To make room for the wider Coyote V8, the shock towers were deleted and TCI inner fenders were installed. Fuel is delivered by an all new fuel system with a Tanks Inc. fuel tank, in-tank electric fuel pump and regulator. Power is sent from the transmission to a Ford 9 inch rear end.

With the removal of the factory shock towers, an all new TCI independent front suspension kit was installed that includes coilovers, power rack and pinion, and 12 inch Wilwood disc brakes. This front suspension setup features TCI's custom spindles with bolt on steering arms. The rear setup has a disc brake conversion on the Ford 9 inch rear end, with replacement rear leaf springs.

The Mustang's interior features new black front bucket seats, a custom center console, new Nardi Torino leather wrapped steering wheel, Dakota Digital gauges, and a Classic Auto Air A/C system. Also installed is a Retrosound bluetooth stereo. Included with the sale is a large binder of receipts on the build that can be seen in the gallery photos below.
