Wrench Report
RestoMods Head Mechanic. 20 year classic car mechanic & builder.
Iconic West Coast lowrider style. Built by the legendary Locos Banditos Collective, this wagon combines a healthy dose of horsepower with a slammed stance and a work of art exterior. Dig into the gallery to see all the details. My personal favorite touch? The bass drum throttle pedal.
Description
This 1960 Chevrolet Bel Air Station Wagon is a full-custom radical lowrider built by the renowned West Coast custom car collective, the Locos Banditos. Led by builder and painter "K-Daddy" Kyle Gann of K-Daddyz Kustomz, this long-and-low wagon features an award-winning custom aesthetic, a dual-quad 409ci V8, and a fully adjustable air-ride chassis. The car has been recognized with numerous accolades and was previously featured in both Rod & Custom magazine and StanceWorks. Showing 2,084 miles since the completion of its professional build, the vehicle is being offered by the selling dealer with a clean North Carolina title.

The exterior features an intricate, show-quality custom paint scheme executed by Kyle Gann and Ron Beam of Beam Brothers Creative Paint & Pinstriping, incorporating hand-laid panels, flames, and heavy pinstriping accents over a green base. The body has been significantly streamlined by shaving the door handles and modifying the side trim. The build preserves the iconic flat-fin rear styling and expansive greenhouse of the 1960 Chevrolet full-size wagon line, with all glass and perimeter brightwork polished or renewed.

The wagon sits completely slammed to the pavement on a set of 15-inch aluminum Rocket Racing wheels. These retro-style wheels are wrapped in wide-whitewall radial tires that tie the low-riding stance to a traditional 1960s custom look.

The rear tailgate drops down to reveal a cleanly carpeted and finished cargo area that safely houses the auxiliary components for the adjustable air management system.

The interior has been completely customized with a vintage-style tuck-and-roll theme, featuring front and rear bench seats wrapped in bright white upholstery contrasted by purple piping and matching purple carpet inserts. The two-tone white and purple theme extends across the custom door panels and rear side structures. Sound insulation material lines the floorboards with green carpeting, and a high-end Alpine Bluetooth stereo system has been integrated, firing through dual amplified subwoofers hidden in the rear cargo section.

The smoothed, painted dashboard mirrors the exterior's pinstriped artwork and holds a tilt steering column with a custom wheel. Driver instrumentation is updated with a combination of high-grade AutoMeter and Stewart Warner auxiliary gauges to monitor critical engine outputs.

A unique custom touch includes a genuine Ludwig bass drum pedal that has been re-engineered to serve as the accelerator pedal.

The engine bay features a smoothed and heavily pinstriped firewall housing a custom-built 409ci "W-block" V8 engine that produces an estimated 530 horsepower. The engine is built with Edelbrock Performer aluminum cylinder heads, a dual-quad aluminum intake manifold, and a pair of Edelbrock four-barrel carburetors. It is heavily dressed with vintage Offenhauser finned aluminum valve covers and a matching dual-quad air cleaner housing. Cooling is handled by a premium Be Cool aluminum radiator equipped with a large electric cooling fan, while spent gases exit via ceramic-coated headers. Power is directed through a Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 three-speed automatic transmission that is operated with a floor mounted shifter.

The chassis has been heavily re-engineered to handle the car's extreme stance and increased horsepower, anchored by an AccuAir air ride suspension system supplied by dual chrome compressors and a polished aluminum air storage tank. The front end incorporates CPP tubular control arms paired with a modern power rack-and-pinion steering conversion. The rear features a custom four-link suspension setup augmented by a Watts link to ensure the axle remains centered under load. Braking performance has been thoroughly modernized with a power-assisted four-wheel disc brake system.
